Rosy seabass ice cream

Rosy seabass, also known as Nodoguro is one of the most popular fish in Ishikawa and has an ice cream flavor named after it. The appearance of this ice cream may surprise you to think that the ice cream tastes fishy. However don’t worry, it doesn’t contain any fish. The cone simply resembles the fish. The cone is made of *Kaga dried wheat gluten.(Kaga is one of the regions in Ishikawa.) For the ice cream you can choose from flavors such as vanilla, strawberry, and green tea. Sweet red beans underneath the ice cream fill the bottom of the cone. The crunchy cone, ice cream and red beans come together in gorgeous harmony. I absolutely recommend that you try it out.

Unmeltable ice cream

This ice cream was invented by professor Ota of Kanazawa university. It did not melt even if they were exposed to dryer heat over 5 minutes. The reason is that they contain strawberry polyphenol, which prevents from melting. They are made of all natural ingredients without any additives. You can choose the flavours such as vanilla, strawberry, green tea and mango. There are various kinds of shape of ice creams associated with Kanazawa’s landmarks and symbol mark.

There are several places you can eat gold leaf ice creams in Kanazawa because Kanazawa is the well known place for producing gold leafs. It tends to be expensive as it uses a big gold leaf. I researched many of them and I will introduce you to the best gold leaf ice cream in terms of its reasonable price and eye-catching appearance. The ice cream is called “Kanazawa-haku soft”, which is covered by a huge edible gold leaf and silver leaf. It is the first ice cream to ever use silver and gold leaves in the world.

Overall

It’s getting hotter and hotter in Kanazawa, so why not you should try one of them out in this severe season. Please note, it’s not allowed to eat food while walking around Higasi-chaya district, so if you buy food in the area, I recommend you to dine-in. I will keep update more information about ice creams in Ishikawa later. Thank you for reading!
