Kanazawa Marathon 2016 How to find accommodation ? When is the deadline of reservation ?

The result of lottery  has been officially announced on Thu.8th Jun 2016.  The winning rate was 2.3 times with the capacity of  13,000 runners of  over 28,000 applications for 2016 the 2nd year of Kanzawa Marathon. 

So I bet you are lucky one if you got the right of running this pretty popular marathon… or hope this article helps someone who is thinking attend the marathon next year ! 

Anyway, I strongly recommend you to book accommodation as soon as possible if you visit/stay in Kanazawa during this time, especially between 21st Fri and 23rd of Oct. 2016  as apparently there are only few hotels left on the reservation page from the official Kanazawa marathon website in Japanese and there is deadline of hotel reservation for participants who are not residing in Japan. 

 

 When is the deadline ? 

 Firstly, the hotel reservation accepting for the participants have been opened at 12:00 pm on Thu. 9th. June. 2016.

According to the Hotel reservation page on Kanazawa marathon official site, the candidates who are not resident in Japan should reserve accommodations by

Friday, September 16, 2016 (JST)

However, after the deadline, you can make a reservation by yourself so don’t feel disappointed,  you could still find accommodations for your Kanazawa Marathon.

 

Which hotels are located in city center and high standard ?

To make your first Kanazawa Marathon without any stress, you may prefer to stay in a hotel in good location such as near the goal/start points and high standard. Another point is that the weather in Kanazawa is very fructuate. Last year, even though the organizer changed the date of marathon few days earlier, the weather was quite miserable, pouring rain and runners were shivered. So I made a list of hotels which are all located in/ close to city center and have hot springs/ SPA !

1「 Kanazawa Sainoniwa Hotel 」★★★★★ 

This hotel opened on March, 2015. It is a very new and already listed in “Michelin guide book – Hokuriku special edition -2016” also got some good prizes and reviews from some Japanese hotel booking websites.  One of the main feature of this hotel is “Japanese Garden” which express beautiful scenery of Japanese four seasons.

One is “EKIMAE”where is located in just next to Kanazawa station and another one is “CHUO” where is located in the city center, Kata-machi. Both have natural hot springs/ SPA and great services. They guarantee minimum rates if you book through their official website.

3.「Kanazawa Yumenoyu（金沢 ゆめのゆ） 」★★★★

Originally, It is a large public hotspring /SPA but they opened the hotel next to the onsen. It is located a bit far from Kanazawa station though it is closer from goal point where is Kanazawa Seibu ryokuchi park. However, you could not book any accommodation, they have a big lounge and relaxation room where you can stay at free if you paid the entry fee of hot spring. They have many kinds of restaurants and also Karaoke too so it is good for group of people as well.  Also there is a very popular Kaiten Sushi restaurant called ” Mori mori Sushi （もりもり寿司）” in front of  Yumenoyu. It might be crowded but it definitely worth to try  fresh and delicious Sushi in Kanazawa.

 The hotel located in the center of Kanazawa city. Just 5 mints walk from “Kenroku-en （garden)” and thier natural hot spring is good for your skin. The atmosphere of hotel is retro and modern as you can see full of  furnishing like wooden chair and staind glass windows,  “Kutani-yaki（九谷焼き）/ Ishikawa special pottery ” lamps and Gold leaf art crafts … free ice-cream service after onsen/ SPA is a good fame at this hotel.

If it is passed the deadline/all hotels were fully booked, what you should do !?

 These hotels are pretty popular so they could be fully booked right after even if it is weekends or Holiday season.

If none of the hotels were available during the marathon, don’t feel so bad although you might have to stay a bit far away like  Noto- peninsula or Komatu, Kaga-city area or next prefecture like Toyama or Fukui.

There are 4 hotel booking websites, you can still find a good one ..Hope this help somehow you make your Kanazawa Marathon perfectly organize.

1「airbnb 」… You may find a good one however there are quite few lists due to Japanese strickt rule.　

2「trivago」: This site cover 33 languages and compare over 250 travel agencies includes  booking.com, expedia and official hotel price ! Great tool to find the cheapest price in mints. 

3「agoda」: This one of most useful website especially when you are looking for a hotel with a great deal in Asia. You should be membership as they offer extra 30% off deal.

4「couchsurfing」: However hosts showing ” not accepting ” on their profile,  you can still send personal message and might able to get a great local host ! 

 

Conclusion 

 Kanazawa city is still not so popular destination for tourist from overseas. It is still a medium urban city however Kanazawa get way more famous than before, especially after new Shinkansen line have connected from Tokyo. So, it is a problem there are not enough accommodations in Kanazawa although they have a new city- planning coming recent in few years. 

Personally, I feel happy if this city is loved by a lot of people but an issue is keep this peaceful and traditional atmosphere of this city with encouraging development.
